Sergeant Frank Benjamin Mason (Service No:W3942) first enlisted with the Militia (Sapper; Service No:246864) with 13th Field Coy RAE before transferring to the ACMF on 3 February 1942. Sergeant Mason was attached to 13 Field Coy at Discharge on 2 June 1943.
Frank was born in 1901 in Cannington WA, fourth of eleven children of Frank Ernest Hamblin Mason (b1872 in Canning, WA) and Lucy Waldron (b1879 in New Zealand). Frank Snr (a Farmer and Contractor) and Lucy married in 1894 in Canning, WA where they settled and raised their family. Frank Snr served in WWI (Private; Service No:974) and following his Discharge as Medically Unfit (acute rheumatism), he and Lucy remained in Cannington where Frank Snr worked on his farm and for Boans and the Post Master General's Department in the Mail Room and as a Cleaner.
Frank started work as a Clerk and was Shire Clerk in Nungarin in 1928 when he married Kathleen Mary Smith (b1908 in Perth, WA). Frank and Kathleen lived in Nungarin, Koorda, Bassendean and Mundaring where Frank was Shire Secretary Engineer of the Road Boards. Following his Discharge from the ACMF, Frank and Kathleen lived in Kalgoorlie where Frank was a Storekeeper. By 1956 they had settled in Wagin, where Frank was Shire Clerk Engineer until his retirement in 1966. Kathleen died in 1965 and Frank in 1972.
