When John Hastings Fairlie-Cunninhame was born on 3 April 1899 in New South Wales, his father, William, was 43 and his mother, Georgiana, was 33. He married Margaret Ruth Woodhill on 20 September 1934 in Australia. They had four children during their marriage. He died on 14 September 1997 in Sydney, New South Wales, at the age of 98. Relation to Sir William Alan Fairlie Cuninhame 15th Baronet.
