Sergeant Benjamin Cecil Glew (Service Nos:WX10301/W243741) first enlisted in the ACMF on 26 July 1940 before enlisting in the AIF in December that year - giving his birthdate as 5 August 1901 instead of 5 August 1899). By September 1942 he was promoted to Sergeant and served in New Guinea (10 February 1941 - 15 May 1942; 17 April 1943 - 15 October 1943 and 18 December 1943 - 10 April 1944) with 2/13 Field Ambulance. Sergeant Glew was Discharged on 5 July 1945. In WWI he had made two attempts at enlistment in the AIF (Private; Service No:16098) - in 1917 and 1918.

Born in 1899 in Perth WA, Bill was the fourth of seven children of Samuel Glew (b1861 in Melbourne, Victoria) and Margaret Crooks (b1864 in Melbourne, Victoria). Samuel (a Brickmaker) and Margaret married in 1884 and by the late 1890s had settled in Perth and New Norcia WA where Samuel was a Brickmaker.

In his Attestation Papers in 1917 and 1918, Bill had stated his occupation was Messenger Clerk and Farmer. In 1925 he was a Brickmaker in Armadale WA when he married Teresa May Cosgrove (b1899 in Fremantle WA). Bill and Teresa settled in Perth where Bill was a Tramways Employee in the 1930s and was working as a Linesman and Truck Driver when he enlisted in the Army in 1940. Following his Discharge in 1945 Bill fractured both legs in an accident, and he and Teresa settled in Perth where Bill worked as a Linesman. Bill died in 1973 and Teresa in 1979.
