21 Oct 1918: | Honoured Military Medal, Le Hamel - Blueprint for Victory, On morning of 4 July 1918 during operations at Vaire Wood, 3536 Private W.J.C. Tong and 4253 Private Edward Alfred McLaughlin went forward with the 13th Battalion forward party as Runners. Within 30 minutes from time of "hoping off" they delivered their first message from the advancing troops, under a very heavy enemy barrage. Returning to their forward station they set to work digging in and helping to establish the forward signal party. Working continuously for 7 to 8 hours delivering messages to Battalion H.Q. and forward Companies they displayed the utmost bravery and devotion to duty. | |
