Obituary
Late Pte. W. J. Batt
The late Pte. W. J. Batt, who died of gunshot wounds in the head on April 8, was the eldest son of Mr. James Batt, of Adelaide (late of Hindmarsh). He left Australia on February 7, 1916, and served in Egypt before going on to France, where he was wounded in the left arm a few months ago. After his recovery he joined the 50th Battalion, with which he served until his death. He was born at West Hindmarsh, and received his education at the Hindmarsh Public School. For some years he was employed by Mr. A. Duthie, of Kilkenny, as a blacksmith, but subsequently took up farming at the Bolivar. He was 21 years of age, and was much liked by all who knew him. His happy and generous disposition won for him a large circle of friends.
