Son of John William Ullyatt and Sarah Ellen Ullyatt nee Taylor of Northcote, Victoria. Brother of Albert Percy Ullyatt who embarked with 1st to 17th Re-enforcements returning on 12 December 1918 after troopship HT Medic was recalled.

Commenced return to Australia on 21 June 1919 aboard SS Konigin Luise disembarking on 13 August 1919

Husband of Dora Ullyant nee Burgess. John and Dora married on 23 June 1917 in the Primitive Methodist Chapel, Leicester, England. William Hughes officiated
