Gunner NX174840 Leslie Alfred Bishop (24.3.1925-03.08.2017) of Yowie Bay, Sydney.

Les, Author of "The Thunder of the Guns" (first published by 2/3 Australian Field Regiment Association, Sydney 1998). A comprehensive history of the 2/3rd Field Regiment during World War 11.

Born at San Souci, a suburb of in Sydney's south in 1925, Les attended the Sans Souci Public School, furthering his education at th Kogarah Intermediate High School.

He commenced employment in 1941 with the New South Wales Fresh Food and Ice Company Limited, in Sydney.

Les joined the Army in 1943, and after initial training at Greta and Dapto, moved to the Jungle Warfare Training Centre at Canungra Qld, ultimately joining the 2/3rd Field Regiment at Wondecla Qld.In June,1944. Serving with the regiment until the end of the war, after active service in New Guinea he returned to Australia in 1946.

Rejoinng his civillian employer, Les continued with this company until December1950, when he transferred to the Electricity Distributing Authority in his local area, remaining until retitring in July, 1985.

Les was for some years Secretary/Treasurer of the 2/3rd Field Regiment Association of New South Wales.
