Farewell to Rev. J E Dale

At the rectory of St. John's Church, South Townsville, last Monday evening the Parishioners met for the purpose of giving a farewell evening to their priest, the Rev. J. E. Dale, who leaves for Enoggera on active service next Thursday. Music and songs filled in the evening all too quickly. Shortly before the refreshments were partaken of, Mr Reg. Bowden took the opportunity, on behalf of the people of St. John's, of presenting Mr Dale with a handsome pair of field glasses suitably engraved, and in a neat little speech said that the members were all very sorry to lose him, even if it were only for a short time, and wished him a safe return. Mr Dale, who was quite taken by surprise, responded, saying that in his opinion presentations were generally given to anyone leaving a place. He certainly was going away. but only for a short time, and when his duty was performed he would return to St. John's and would not leave it unless he were forced. The singing of 'Auld Lang Syne,' 'God be with You till We meet Again' and the National Anthem brought a pleasant evening to a close.
