Fred was the youngest of eighteen children of John Godfrey Johnson (b1848 in Bolivia, NSW) and Ellen Folwell (b1859 in Stawell, Victoria). John (a Labourer) and Ellen married in Heathcote, Victoria in 1875 and lived in Victoria and NSW before moving their family to Perth WA in the early 1890s. John worked as a Labourer in Perth WA before becoming a Farmer in Darkan, WA.
Fred was a Labourer in 1930 when he married Maude Ballagh (b1906 in Winchelsea, Victoria). The couple settled in Midland Junction, and in 1941 Fred was a Quarryman at Boya when he enlisted in the ACMF (Private; Service No:W26584). He was attached to 5 Garrison Battalion when he was Discharged in July 1944. Fred was one of eight brothers who served in WWI and/or WWII.
Maude died in 1944, and by 1949 Fred was living in Helena Valley WA and working as a Labourer. He moved to Hazelmere and worked as a Tarpaulin Maker. Fred died in 1983.
