Andrew Buxton BRITTLEBANK was born on 10th February, 1895 in Bacchus Marsh, Victoria
His parents were Thomas Andrew BRITTLEBANK and Marion Margaret MYERS who married in 1894 in Victoria
He had previous service with 46th Infantry and served in the Cadets and the 12th Light Horse in Sale, Victoria, 3 years as a Corporal in 57th Infantry and 4 & a half months as Sergeant - he was discharged on 17th Feb, 1916 as medicall unfit and also rejected by the 24th Battalion as medically until. He renlisted again on 17th February, 1916
He embarked on 8th July, 1916 on HMAT Ajana from Melbourne with the 57th Infantry Battalion, 3rd reinforcements & later transferred to the 59th Battalion
Andrew died of wounds received in action on 15th October, 1917 when he was hit by a shell while in a trench in charge of a party of men at Broodseinde Ridge , Passchendaele, Belgium and is buried in Aeroplane Cemetery in Belgium - his name is memorialised on the Australian War Memorial
He was awarded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal
Andrews cousin, Cyril Clifton BRITTLEBANK (/explore/people/161206) (SN589) also served and died of disease on 23rd May, 1918
