Son of John BAMPTON (b. 28/4/1866 in Gawler, SA - d. 1941) and Jane Bampton (nee HEALEY, b. 9/11/1872 in Pittenweem, SA - d. 1940), both buried in Mitcham Cemetery, SA.

On enlisting Herbert was 18yrs 5 mths old, single, 5' 10" tall; fair complexion; blue eyes; brown hair; Church of England, living with his parents, worked as an Electrician.

17/7/1918    embarked from Sydney NSW onboard HMAT Borda A30
                   as a Private in Army Medical Corps - General Reinforcements

27/9/1918    disembarked into London, England

18/11/1918  proceeded overseas to France, ex Southampton, UK

13/12/1918  detached to 2nd Austn Machine Gun Battalion in the field

2/3/1919      detached to 5th Field Ambulance in the field

29/3/1919    detached to 5th, 6th & 7th Field Ambulance

12/5/1919    rejoined 2nd Machine Gun Battalion

6/9/1919      returned to Australia onboard Euripedes, ex England
