Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Leslie was the second of four children of Charles Strange (b1865 in Essex, England) and Elizabeth Mary Hearn (nee O'Keefe; b1884 in Innisfail, QLD). Charles immigrated in 1874 with his parents and siblings, arriving in Brisbane, QLD on board the Darling Downs. He worked as a Labourer in Beaudesert and Nambour and married Elizabeth in 1919 in Nambour QLD. Elizabeth was a Widow with seven surviving young children - her first husband George had served in WWI (Private; Service No:6261) and died from wounds in May 1919. Charles and Elizabeth moved with their family to Brisbane in 1921 and Charles worked as a Labourer.

Leslie was a Labourer when he enlisted in the Australian Army in 1943. He was a Corporal (Service Nos:QX56690/Q153960) attached to 10 Movement Control Group when he was Discharged in August 1946.

Returning to Brisbane, Leslie lived with his parents and worked as a Wool Scour Hand before marrying Joyce Elizabeth in the mid 1950s. Leslie and Joyce lived in Brisbane and Leslie worked as a Labourer and Truck Driver. He died in 1982.
