William Newton BALDOCK was born in Guildford, Surrey , England in 1887
His parents were Edward BALDOCK & Annie BACKSHALL
He arrived in Australia on 14th June, 1907 on the ship Miltiades

He was one of four brothers. He emigrated to Australia in 1907 with his brother Harry. A brother, Private Charles Baldock, aged 20, also gave his life in this conflict. He was serving with the 9th Battalion The Royal Sussex Regiment, 24th Division Service Number G/ 3258. He was killed in action on the first day of the battle of Loos, 25th September 1915. He had been born in Purley, Surrey and enlisted in Lindfield having then been employed at 'The Star', Haywards Heath. He is commemorated on The Loos Memorial.
They were sons of Edward and Annie of 15 West View, Lindfield.
Both brothers are remembered on the Lindfield Parish War Memorial 1914-1919. Also commemorated on this memorial is Private Ernest Richard Townshend, aged 36 of the 16th Battalion The Australian Infantry. A. N. Z. A. C. Killed in action on Gallipoli 2nd May 1915
