Private Alexander Jack Marino (Service No:VX80472) enlisted in the Army on 29 June 1942 - graded Driver Mechanic. Private Marino was attached to 2/142 General Transport Coy before posting in 1944 to 2/18 Transport Platoon. Private Marino served in the South West Pacific (SWP) Region, including Morotai, Labuan and Rabaul and was attached to 2/18 Transport Platoon at Discharge on 2 January 1947. His father and three brothers also served in WWII.

Alex was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1922, second of five children of Philip Marino (b1892 in Edinburgh, Scotland) and Annie Grace Jack (b1893 in Innerleven, Fifeshire, Scotland). Philip was a Labourer in 1914 when he enlsited in the British Army (Corporal; Regimental No:721) and was Discharged in 1920, when he and Annie (a Spinner) married in Glasgow. In 1928, Philip and Annie immigrated with their five children, arriving in Melbourne, Victoria on board the Demosthenes. The family settled in Trafalgar, where Philip worked as a Labourer.

Alex was working in Trafalgar as a Mechanic in 1942 when he enlisted in the Army. Following his Discharge, he returned to Traflagar and was working as a Mechanic in 1950 when he married Eileen Millicent Brown (b1929 in Trafalgar, Victoria). Alex and Eileen settled in Trafalgar, where they raised their family and Alex worked as a Mechanic. Alex died in 1996 and Eileen in 2022.
