He stood for election to one the Vice Presidents of the Reurned Sailors and Soldiers Imperial League of Australia South Australian Branch in 1920.  having served in the war from 1914 to 1918 both in the Field Ambulance and in the 50th Battalion he felt he understood the need for the work the League undertook on behalf of the returned men and wanted to continue the work.   He was not elected and recieve 227 votes.

Biography

1043 Private Thomas Wolmer English, 4th Field Ambulance, was a 20 year old bank clerk from Dulwich, South Australia when he enlisted on 4 November 1914. His NoK was listed as his father Mr Joseph Wallace English, Stuart Avenue, Dulwich, South Australia.

He embarked for overseas from Adelaide on 22 December 1914 aboard HMAT Berrima. Although wounded at Gallipoli, he recovered and saw further action in France with the 50th Battalion.

Appointed a 2nd Lieutenant on 17 March 1916, he returned to Australia on 3 February 1919 as a Captain.

Captain English also served during the Second World War from 18 June 1940 until 31 July 1946 in the Intelligence Corps in South Australia.

Resident for many years at 2 Margaret St Walkerville, he was a life long member of the Walkerville RSL Sub Branch until his death in 1956.
