Corporal James William Gibson (Service No:38298) enlisted in the RAAF on 27 March 1941 - mustered as an Office Orderly, remustered on 10 June 1942 as a General Clerk. Corporal Gibson served with 25 and 14 Squadrons, No 5 Initial Training School (ITS) Clontarf and 74 and 75 Operational Base Units (OBU). He was attached to 5 Cadet Wing ATC Perth at Discharge on 17 May 1946.
Born in 1918 in Perth WA, Jim was the second of three children of John Gibson (b1887 in Renfrewshire, Scotland) and Elizabeth Mackay Sutherland (b1888 in Sydney, NSW). John worked as a Message Boy in Scotland, and as a Railway Worker when he first arrived in WA. He was a Motor Mechanic in 1916 when he and Elizabeth married in Perth WA, where they settled and raised their family.
Jim attended Perth Boys' School and started work as an Office Boy in 1936. He worked in Perth as a Junior Clerk and Stores Clerk before enlisting in the RAAF. In 1948 in Perth WA, Jim married Boronia (Bonnie) Theodora Christabel Norman (b1923 in Perth, WA) - Bonnie had worked as a Farm Girl, Waitress and Junior Dressmaker before enlisting in the RAAF. Jim and Bonnie settled in Perth WA, where they raised their family and Jim worked as a Clerk before retiring to North Beach. Bonnie died in 2003 and Jim in 2015.
