Leading Aircraftman Douglas George Ross (Service No:51860) enlisted in the RAAF as an Aircraftman i on 9 March 1942 - mustered as Mechanic and later as Fitter. LAC Ross attended No 4 School of Technical Training (STTS) Adelaide, No 1 Engineering School (ES) Ascot Vale, No 6 Service Flight Training School (SFTS) Mallala and served with No 2 Squadron. LAC Ross was attached to 1 Communications Unit at Discharge on 3 November 1944 (on compassionate grounds - needed to work on farm).

Douglas was born in 1919 in Minyip Victoria, youngest fo six children of Alexander (Alex) Hill (b1873 in Byaduk nr Hamilton, Victoria) and Mary Ellen Lamb (b1876 in Ceres, Geelong, Victoria). Alex (a Station Manager) and Mary married in 1900 in Geelong, Victoria and lived in Geelong, Barrabool, Wonthagi and Minyip where they raised their family and Alex was a Store and Station Manager. Mary died within weeks of Douglas' birth (he was adotped by Mary's sister and her husband). ALex was in Myrtleford, Victoria in 1926 when he remarried to Miriam Margaretta Lyons (b1898 in Waterloo, Victoria) - Miriam was a School Teacher in Myrtleford and Melbourne. 

Douglas grew up in Wilgul nr Berrybank, Victoria on the farm owned by his Aunt and Uncle (whom he called his mother and father) and was a Farmer in 1942 when he enlisted in the RAAF. In 1944 in Melbourne, Douglas married Margaret Davies (b1919 in Melbourne, Victoria) - Margaret was a Teacher. Douglas and Margaret settled at Wilgul where they raised their family and Douglas was a Farmer. Margaret died in 2002 and Douglas in 2020.
