Thomas Sholto Douglas was born in Greenock, Scotland and as a single medical practitioner of Tamworth aged 28 years, enlisted in the AIF on 8 February 1916 as a Captain in the Medical Officers Unit. His unit embarked from Sydney, NSW on board HMAT A69 Warilda on 22 May 1916. He returned to Australia on 21 November 1916. By 1921 he was the chief of the Tamworth Caledonian Society and Vice President of the Tamworth Returned Services League.
