Albert was the seventh of eight children of Thomas James Wallace (born in Melbourne, Victoria) and Celia Hannah Osborne (born in Morang, Victoira). Following their marriage in 1874, Thomas and Celia moved to Benalla in Victoria where they raised their family.

Albert returned to the Benalla District and worked at Violet Town, Gowangardie, Victoria as a Labourer until his marriage in 1923 in Melbourne, Victoria to Eveline Sarah Wall. Albert and Sarah lived in Violet Town, Gowangardie, Victoria where Albert worked as a Labourer. By 1931 the family was living in Shepparton, Victoria where Albert was a Poultry Farmer, and then an Orchardist.
