Leading Aircraftman Raymond Alan Thompson (Service No:124158) enlisted in the RAAF in March 1943 as an ACI after having served as a Private (Service No:Q1283) in the Militia attached to Signals 1. LAC Thompson served with 8 ACS in Tarakan (1943) and Balikapan (1945) and was attached to 8 Mobile Works Squadron when he Discharged in January 1946.
Born in 1917 in Maryborough QLD, Ray was the third of four children of George Thompson (b1881 in Yengarie, QLD) and Lily Maud Maudsley (b1887 in Ipswich, QLD). George (a Teacher) and Lily married in 1910 in Boonara QLD and lived in Malakoff via Dalby, Urangan, Goomburra and Boonah in Ipswich QLD where George was a Teacher.
Ray worked as a Truck Driver, Farmer, Shop Assistant and Dry Cleaner before enlisting. In 1941 in Brisbane QLD Ray married Annie Thelma Sim (b1913 in Brisbane, QLD) - Annie was working as a Machinist in Brisbane. Following his Discharge, Ray and Annie settled in Brisbane QLD, where the Census data indicates Ray did not work for several years, but by 1958 he was a Dry Cleaner. Ray died in 1984 and Annie in 1988.
