"...2251 Sapper Alfred James Gravenall, 12th Field Company Engineers. A presser from Northcote, Victoria, Spr Gravenall enlisted in July 1915 at 22 years of age and embarked with the 2nd Field Company Engineers in November 1915. He was transferred to the 12th Field Company Engineers in March 1916. Spr Gravenall's unit was based at Vignacourt for several weeks in the winter of 1916-17 while undertaking a number of different engineering projects in the surrounding area.
