KARKOO...A social was tendered to Telegraphist David Kimber, who has joined the Navy. Presentations were made from the district (pocket wallet), Yeelanna Fighting Forces Committee (wristlet watch), and C.W.A. (parcel of knitted goods). - Port Lincoln Times, 03 July 1941 (nla.gov.au).
PRESUMED DEATH AT SINGAPORE
Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Kimber have received news from the Department of the Navy that their eldest son, Ordinary Telegraphist David John Kimber, is now presumed to have lost his life when Singapore fell on February 15, 1942. He was educated at Payneham, Hundred Shannon (now Karkoo) and Adelaide High Schools, and enlisted while still a student. After 16 months at Flinders Naval Depot he joined H.M.A.S. Vampire at Singapore from which ship he was discharged to Alexandra Hospital. He was 18½ years of age at the time of his presumed decease. - Port Lincoln Times, 14 March 1946 (nla.gov.au).
