Bill was the second of five children of John (Jack) Joseph O'Mara (b1875 in Melbourne, Victoria) and Lucy (Bub) Beatrice Mary Towton (b1883 in Perth, WA). Jack was a Horse Trainer in Perth, WA when he served in the Boer War (Farrier Sergeant; Service No:2830) and married Bub in Perth WA in 1904 - Bub was the daughter of well known horse racing identity George Towton (Jockey, Horse Breeder/Trainer/Racer) who had stables at Belmont in Perth, WA. Jack and Bub raised their family at Belmont where Jack was a Horse Trainer.
Bill completed Perth Technical School and served a five and a half year apprenticeship as an electrician with LH Deague & Co in Perth, before setting up his own business. In 1936 he married Lesley Frances Gordon (b1913 at Day Dawn, WA) and in July 1940 enlisted in the RAAF as an Aircraftman (Service NoL17356). By 1941 he was promoted to Leading Aircraftman, and Corporal in February 1942. Bill was Discharged in October 1945. Lesley also served in the RAAF in WWII, and siblings John, Matt and Ethel also served in WWII.
Bill and Lesley settled in Rivervale, Perth WA where Bill worked as an Electrician. Bill died in 1988.
