Biography contributed by Evan Evans

From Barraba Historical Museum

Pte Owen Michael Byrnes, brother of Bertie Byrnes & Ruby James and great uncle of the Byrnes and Barnes family here among others.

The photo loaned by Jon Byrnes was intended for posting for Anzac but postal delays intervened.
Owen (Doss) Byrnes was born 26th June 1890 at Bundarra.

Owen enlisted on 5/6/1916 and listed his occupation as Horse breaker and Buck Jumper.  Owen spent some time in the UK during WW1 being gassed and wounded at various times.

He survived to re-enlist for WW11 in Barraba which he spent in the desert as far as I know.

Owen survived both WW1 & WW11 and was living at the Victoria Hotel when he died.
