"...5036 Private William Barrie, 1st Battalion, of Helensburgh North, NSW... A miner prior to enlisting on 15 December 1915, Pte Barrie embarked with the 16th Reinforcements from Sydney on board SS Makarini on 1 April 1916. Pte Barrie was killed in action while taking part in an attack on a German pillbox at Broodseinde, Belgium, on 4 October 1917. He was 40 years of age..." - SOURCE (www.awm.gov.au)
