Humphrey Temple BABINGTON was born on 19th July, 1884 in Tonbridge, Kent, England

His parents were John Albert BABINGTON & Emily Elizabeth GARDNER who married on 29th June, 1876 in Kent

He had worked as a bank clerk in England & when he came to Australia in 1914 he worked as a tramway employee - he then enlisted in Adelaide, SA on 19th August, 1915 for WW1 - he embarked with the 32nd Battalion, 6th reinforcements on 11th April, 1916 on the HMAT Aeneas

The regiment was sent to Egypt and then moved to Marseilles.  He remained at the front  before being struck down with illness

Humphrey died of bronchitis & debility on 1st May, 1917 at the 9th Casualty Clearing Station and is buried in Aveluy Communal Cemetery

His name is memorialised on the Australian War Memorial, the Adelaide National War Memorial & the Tonbridge School Roll of Honour (UK) - he was awarded the British War Medal & the Victory Medal
