Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Desmond (Keith) was the third of seven children of John James Michael Maxwell (b1897 in Ipswich, QLD) and Evelyn Alice Nunn (b1896 in Dinmore, Ipswich, QLD). John - a Coach Painter - and Evelyn married in 1918 in Ipswich, QLD where they settled and raised their family.

Desmond worked as a Farm Hand and Carter, and was a Saw Mill Hand in Ipswich in 1943 when he enlisted in the RAAF (Service No: 123205). He served as an Aircraftman I and Leading Aircraftman (Flight Rigger) with 3 Personnel Depot, No 5 Squadron, No 120 Squadron (NEI) and was attached to 7 Stores Depot when he was Discharged in January 1946.

Returning to Ipswich following Discharge, Desmond was working as a Wagon Builder in 1947 when he married Rosaline (Rose) Oglethorpe (b1925 in Ipswich, QLD). Desmond and Rose settled in Ipswich where Desmond worked as a Wagon Builder before relocating to Emerald QLD in the mid 1970s. The couple retired to Maroochydore on the Sunshine Coast, where Desmond died in 1997 and Rose in 2009.
