4 Oct 1917: | Honoured Military Cross, Third Ypres, 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty when in charge of a convoy of mules carrying forward engineering material and small arm ammunition, which were urgently required. The convoy came into a heavy barrage and was partly scattered. He collected all the animals together and succeeded in delivering the whole of the material to its destination.' | |
26 Jul 1918: | Honoured Military Cross and bar, Dernancourt/Ancre, 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during a counter attack. He led the first wave of his company in the attack under very heavy machine gun fire, and took three enemy machine guns, one of which he captured himself. He consolidated his new position, and remained there, though wounded, for forty eight hours.' |
