"...1102 Corporal Charles Dyer, 12th Battalion, of Morgan, SA. He was a marine engineer and steamer's mate prior to enlisting in September 1914. Cpl Dyer embarked from Melbourne on board HMAT Themistocles (A32) on 22 December 1914. He was seriously wounded in action during the landings at Gallipoli on 25 April 1915, and did not rejoin his Battalion until September. In October he was promoted to Sergeant (Sgt). Sgt Dyer arrived in France in May 1916 and was transferred to the 3rd Light Trench Mortar Battery. He was killed in action at Le Barque, near Bapaume, France on 26 February 1917.
