Private William John McIntosh (Service No:W55974) enlisted in the ACMF on 31 March 1942. He had previously enlisted in the AIF on 16 July 1940 (Lance Corporal; Service No:WX6409) and was attached to Recruit Reception Depot when he was Discharged on 26 December 1940 (over age). Private McIntosh served with 1st and 2nd Battalions (WA) VDC and was Discharged on 15 October 1945. In his Attestation Papers (NAA), Private McIntosh states that he served during WWI with 10th Light Horse Regiment. Younger sibling Baden Dundolald McIntosh did enlist in the AIF on 8 July 1918 as a Private and was training at Blackboy Hill, WA on 24 December 1918 when he was Discharged on the cessation of hostilities.

William was the eldest of four children of John Samuel McIntosh (b1857 in Renfrewshire, Scotland) and Eliza Martin (b1862 at Swan Hill, Victoria) William was born in 1895 at Stawell in the Grampians, Victoria where John and Eliza had married in 1891. John was a Gardener in Victoria before moving his family to Bruce Rock, WA in the early 1900's where he was a Farmer. John and Eliza settled in Perth WA in the 1920's.

William worked as a Messenger for the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, and in 1920 in Perth married Edith Mary White (b1894 in Perth, WA) - Edith was working as a Domestic Servant. William and Edith settled in Perth where they raised their family and William worked as a Bank Messenger. William died in 1957 and Edith in 1980.
