Life after Gallipoli
After his return in 1917
from Gallipoli, Alf Moore
worked for a couple of years at
the Newport Railway Workshops
as an accountant. However, he
had to give that up after a few
years because his health wasn’t
the best – the injuries he had
received at Gallipoli were the
trouble. His face and head were
pockmarked with shrapnel and as
late as the mid forties he had an
operation to remove a piece of
shrapnel that was pressing on his
brain and causing him a lot of
bother.
Alf and Lottie were
married on 1st March 1919 and
went to live in a new home in
Hampton Street Middle Brighton
at the corner of Pine Street. They
had no children and later moved
to Mt.Bute and farmed [wheat?]
on a Soldier Settlement block until
they were forced by Alf’s failing
health to move to Grubb Road,
Wallington. After Alf’s death,
Lottie moved into Ocean Grove.
