Robert (b1882 in Durham Ox, Victoria) was a Lorry Driver in Sydney NSW in May 1941 when he enlisted in the ACMF (Private; Service No:N270032). He served with 112 Convalscent Depot and 1 Australian Base Unit - promoted to Corporal in January 1942 and Sergeant in November 1942. He was Discharged in April 1944.
The fourth of nine children of Robert (Bob) Crawford (b1855 in Geelong, Victoria) and Anne Elizabeth Neale (b1855 in Warwickshire, England), Robert, with his mother and siblings, moved to Box Hill in Melbourne, Victoria in 1884 when his father left for the WA Goldfields with his sister-in-law, their two sons together and Robert's older brother Jim.
Robert was a Clergyman in Beechworth, Victoria in 1913 when he married Mary Morris Orton (b1883 in Beechworth, Victoria) - Mary was a Teacher in Yackandandah and Beechworth. In 1917 Robert enlisted in the AIF and served in Egypt (Moascar, Belah, Jordan Valley, Ludd, Kantara, Abbassia and Moascar) with the Australian Army Medical Corps (Private, Driver; Service No:18476). Following his Discharge in March 1919, Robert and Mary settled in Sydney NSW where he worked as a Commercial Traveller and Lorry Driver. Robert died in 1954 and Mary in 1971.
