Donald's parents were Colin and Christina Shaw of Petrie, North Coast Line. Donald attended North Pine State School. He married Emma Louisa Mackenzie in March 1907 at Brisbane, Queensland, they had two children. He was living at Petrie and his occupation was a teacher in 1903. Donald was a private in Queensland Teachers' Volunteer Corps, and continued with School Cadets. He was promoted to Captain and Major, he had also passed his Officers' Competition exam in 1906. Donald enlisted 10 January 1916 and was posted straight from civilian life to a Captain. He died aged 79. Two of Donald's brothers enlisted John Duncan [286] and Thomas Allen [3337] Campbell who both returned home.
