HAROLD SIDNEY HOLLOWAY, the son of Mr. Sidney James and Mrs. Sara Holloway, was born at Redfern, New South Wales, on 2nd June, 1884. He was educated at Sydney Grammar School and joined the service of the Bank at Head Office on 20th December, 1901, and at the time of his enlistment was employed in the Share Department.
He enlisted on 30th January, 1916, and proceeded to France, and was attached to the 13th Field Company, Engineers. On the night of 10th July, 1918, he was out with a wiring party at Hamel, and was killed instantly by a minenwerfer shell on the morning of 11th July.
Lieutenant Hay, writing on the same day about Harold Holloway’s death, said: “He was an exceedingly fine fellow, a great favourite amongst the men of my section, and one of the best and most capable men in the company.”
