HONORARY CANON.
DIRECTOR OF ROMA'S APPOINTMENT.

Dr. Sharp (Archbishop of Brisbane) has appointed the Rev. Austin F. Eva, rector of Roma, to an honorary canonry in St. John's Cathedral, Brisbane. The vacancy occurred by reason of Canon Dixon resigning his honorary canonry and becoming Archdeacon of Brisbane. The announcement was made by the Archbishop to the congregation in the Roma Church on Sunday at the close of the 6.30 a.m. Eucharist, Canon Eva then receiving his license from the Archbishop in the presence of the congregation.

The new canon is a son of Canon Eva, for many years rector of Maryborough. He has worked In the diocese of Brisbane for 29 years, all in country parishes, with the exception of the first four years, when he was curate of Lutwyche. He has been rector of Roma since 1921. From 1905 to 1910 he was a member of the Charleville Bush Brotherhood, and from 1916 to 1919 served at the war as chaplain with the A.I.F., being mentioned in despatches. The Rev. Mr. Eva is the first member of the Brisbane Theological College (which afterwards became St. Francis Theological College, Nundah) to receive the honour of a canonry. The appointment gave much satisfaction to the people of Roma.
