Add my storyBiography contributed by Claude McKelvey
John James Doughan served twice in the South African (Boer) War, first as a Private S.N.244 in the 3rd Queensland Mounted Infantry, and second as a Private S.N. 682 in the 6th Queensland Imperial Bushmen.
John married Elizabeth A Mylecharane in 1891 in the Wellington District of New South Wales, but at the time of enlistment in 1900 for the Boer War he and his wife were living at Woolloongabba in Brisbane.
With the outbreak of WW1, at the age of 43 years, he again enlisted for service on 31 August 1915 in Brisbane. He would embark to serve in Egypt and France but age and the toll of having served in five campaigns proved demanding resulting in him suffering a double hernia and rheumatism resulting in his medical discharge in 1918.
