Jack was the second of five children of Andrew Haldane (b1858 in Fife, Scotland) and Isabella Dick (b1856 in Fife, Scotland). Andrew (a Quarryman) and Isabella (a Mill Worker) married in Clackmannanshire in 1878. In 1887 the couple and their two children immigrated, arriving in Brisbane, QLD in December 1887 on board the Duke of Buccleuch. The family lived in Charters Towers where Andrew was a Miner before moving to Meekatharra, WA where Andrew was a Miner. Isabella died in Perth WA in 1909 and Andrew served in the AIF (Private; Service No:4617) before remarrying in 1917.
Jack worked as a Baker across the Kimberley Region of WA and in 1909 married Rose Elizabeth Dick (b1888 in the Maranoa, QLD) in Port Hedland, WA. Rose lived in Perth WA while Jack travelled, working in Broome as a Baker, Meekatharra as a Miner and Perth as a Carter and Shell Opener. In 1942 Jack was a Miner in Marble Bar WA when he enlisted in the ACMF - on his Attestation Papers he stated his trade was a Hairdresser but that he was currently working as a Prospector. Jack served (Private; Service No:W74558) with 11th North West Battalion VDC and was Discharged in December 1944.
Jack and Rose had separated in 1927 (Mirror; 14 December 1946; p11) and in December 1946 Rose was granted a Divorce in the Supreme Court in Perth, WA. Jack lived in Marble Bar and was a Miner/Prospector at the Comet Mine. He died in 1956.
