Mr. John Robert (Jack) Baker, a well-known identity of the Toodyay district died at Hollywood Hospital on November 17, at the age of 55 years. He was a veteran of the famous 2/4th Machine Gun Battalion. The late Jack Baker was a member of a well-known sporting family, and had spent practically the whole of his life in and around Toodyay. Always keenly interested in horse racing, he was the owner of the well-performed Cool Water a few years ago. He is survived by a widow (formerly Joyce Smith, a member of another old Toodyay family), two daughters, June and Colleeen, and two sons Noel and Barry. The funeral took place at Toodyay on Wedneday morning, the place of internment being the church of England portion of the Toodyay Cemetery.
