Albert Andrews trained at Broadmeadows (VIC), ranked to Trooper and embarked on SS Port Darwin on the 14th September, 1918, and arrived in Suez on the 20th October. He was taken onto strength with the 4th Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron on the 17th December, 1918. On the 23rd July, 1919 he was charged with ‘stealing at Ismailia on 15th July’ or alternatively ‘receiving stolen goods knowing them to have been stolen’, he pleaded not guilty, only to be found guilty on the alternative charge. He was given 3 months hard labour, commuted by Major General Granville Ryrie KCMG, CB, VD, officer commanding ANZAC Mounted Division, to 90 days Field Punishment No.2, signed 24th July 1919. He embarked on H.T Burma on 26th July at Suez as a prisoner. Disembarking at Melbourne on 29th August, he was discharged on the 13th September, 1919 at 3rd Military District ‘services no longer required’. His medals were automatically forfeited.
