Son of John PALMER and Mary Elizabeth nee ASHWIR

Lieutenant 3rd Auckland Mounted Rifles

He was posted to Gallipoli, landing on 23.8.1915 with the Auckland Mounted Rifles which were sent as un-mounted riflemen.

Palmer was Wounded in Action and placed on a hospital ship at ANZAC Cove on 28.8.1915 and was transported to Mudros for treatment. He was moved from Mudros to England arriving on 16.9.1915. His wound was diagnosed as a shattered left hand.

Palmer was Mentioned in Despatches as notified in the London Gazette dated 28.3.1916.

Palmers injury was such that he was not fit for further service and arrangements were made to transport him home to NZ. He departed England on 16.12.1915 and was discharged in NZ on 15.11.1916.
