Nowell was born in Prestwich in England in 1890 as Noel Johnstone SIEVERS

His parents were Edward Johnstone SIEVERS & Lucie Vernon THOMAS who married in All Saints Church in Petersham in  Sydney, NSW on 22nd December,  1888

Captain Nowell Johstone SIEVERS 

Only son of Lucie Vernon and Edward Johnstone SIEVERS of Sydney, NSW

He was born in the UK in December 1890 but the family appear to have emigrated to Australia  by 1896 as 3 of his siblings were born in NSW
