Transferred to the 1st King Edwards Horse and Commissioned 2nd Lieutenant 20 July 1915.
Returned to Regiment from Reserve (Ireland) 3 July 1916.
Signaling Officer Regimental Headquarters April 1917 to October 1918.
On 9 April 1918 Lieutenant Thompson was the Liaison Officer for the XIth Corps General Staff during the regiments gallant defence of Vieille Chapelle, Huits Maisons and Fosse Bridgeheads 9, 10, 11 April 1918.
