Enlisted as 1159 Pte. Elmer Dayton - 5th Light Horse Regiment on 02 Mar 1915 at Ayr, Qld.

Wounded on 02 Sep 1916 (Suez) GSW right shoulder and was returned to Australia then discharged on 25 Oct 1916 

Reenlisted as 18875 Pte. Elmer Dayton on 17 Mar 1917 at Townsville, Qld.

Discharged 2nd Corporal - 1st Field Company Engineers on 18 Dec 1919

Stated he was born in Canada, actually born St Paul, Minn., USA.

He returned to Ayr and married Ethel Nellie Holt on 14 May 1921.

Died at Sea - P.O.W. (Merchant Navy) of Germany on 08 May 1941
