Add my storyBiography contributed by Alexandra Batley
"News of the death of Mr Ebeneza Cyril Alcorn on April 1 was received with deep regret by Dawson Valley residents.
Mr Alcorn was born at Boonah in 1887, and before enlisting to the AIF in World War I passed the examination for railway station master in Western Australia.
He was among the first Diggers to land at Gallipoli, and remained there until the evacuation.
During his three and a half years’ service he was wounded seven times.
Following his discharge Mr Alcorn started a bakery business at Toowong, Brisbane.
He established a similar business at Wowan 9½ year ago, disposing of it to his brother and a nephew last year when he took charge of the Shell Company’s Depot at Wowan.
He had been under medical attention at various periods for the past nine years.
As secretary of the Wowan sub-branch of the RSSAILA he was actively associated with the building of the Soldiers’ Memorial Hall.
He was a keen church worker and in sporting circles followed cricket matches with great interest.
Mr Alcorn was buried in the North Rockhampton Cemetery, the services being performed by Revs. Millar (Church of Christ), and Fraser (Presbyterian).
He is survived by his wife and two sons, Garnet Cyril and Alex George Alcorn, of Wowan."
