OBITUARY
Mr. Vivian G. Archer, of Wanora Downs, Winton, Queensland. Mr. Vivian Archer was in his 58th year, and died suddenly in a car, as the result of a heart seizure, while travelling to an adjoining property, Fairview. Mr. Archer left Tasmania when quite a young man, and gained his first station experience on a property owned by Mr. H. Osbourse in the Roma district, and in 1910 he purchased Wanora Downs. In the 1914-1918 war he enlisted in the 11th Australian Light Horse Regiment, and served with distinction in Egypt, Gallipoli and Sinai. After the war he was an active member of the Winton Sub-branch of the R.S.L. He leaves a wife, one son, and two daughters. The son,
John, has the distinction of having the initial [Service] number of Queensland, QX1. The elder daughter, Margaret, is with the A.I.F. Nursing Service, and the younger daughter, Frances is engaged in military duties with the American Forces. There are three brothers in Tasmania, Messrs Charles Archer, of Lauriston, George Town, Evelyn S. Archer, of Launceston, and Gerald E. Archer, of Landfall. It is interesting to recall that Mr. Vivian Archer's father, the late Mr. Frank Archer, of Landfall, and a former member of the House of Assembly, also died suddenly from heart trouble. On the 26th May, 1902, accompanied by Mr. John Somerville, of Lilydale, he visited the Lilydale
School, and then these two friends started to walk to Lisle by the road which runs across the side of Mount Arthur. Before they reached Lisle Mr. Frank Archer collapsed and died on the road.
