Henry Fletcher GALLAHER was born in Auckland, New Zealand on 2nd January, 1881

His parents were James Henry GALLAHER & Anna Maria Hardy McCLOSKIE who married in the Presbyterian Church in Ramelton, Ireland on 19th July, 1866 - they were both Irish and came to New Zealand with some of their children in 1878 on the ship Lady Jocelyn

He married Norah TOOHEY in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia in 1905

He enlisted in the 8th Battalion of the Australian Commonwealth Horse during the Boer War on 23rd April, 1902 and was discharged at his own request

He enlisted for WW1 on 19th June, 1917 in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia and embarked from Melbourne with the 51st Infantry Battalion, 11th reinforcements on the HMAT Aenas on 30th October, 1917

Henry was Killed in Action in France on 24th April, 1918 - no known grave

His brother Douglas Wallace GALLAHER (SN 654) was also Killed in Action on 3rd June, 1916 and another brother David GALLAHER died of wounds on 4th October, 1917 - he had served in the Boer War and with the Auckland Regiment in New Zealand

Another brother Charles Canning GALLAHER (SN658) also served during WW1 - he returned to Australia in 1915
