Sergeant Moy was 36 and the son of Michael James and Mary Anne Moy, of Bundaleer Forest, Jamestown, South Australia

Sergeant Michael Thomas Moy was born in Booleroo, Mount Remarkable, South Australia in 1881. He was a Blacksmith who was living in the Bundaleer Northern Areas, South Australia before he joined the military. Moy's next of kin was his mother, Mary Anne Moy. Micheal had a brother named James Augustine Moy who was killed at Gallipoli, dying from wounds on 13th November 1915.

Micheal Thomas Moy enlisted in the military on the 9th March 1915, his rank in enlistment was Private and was given his service number 872 and joined the 27th Infantry Battalion. 

Micheal embarked on the HMAT Geelong out of Adelaide on 31st May 1915.

On the 7th of September 1915, he arrived at Gallipoli. He was promoted to Lance Corporal 22nd September 1915 and continued his advancement through the ranks being promoted to Corporal 5th November 1915 and then Temporary Sergeant 7th December 1915. After the evacuation at Gallipoli he went to the Western Front 21st March 1916 and soon after he was accidently killed on the 29th April 1916.
