26 Sep 1917: | Honoured Military Medal, Polygon Wood, At POLYGON WOOD on 26th. September, 1917, telephone communications broke down early in the day, and runners had to be used exclusively. Many runners became casualties, so that those remaining had to work very hard. During the whole of 26th. and 27th. September, Private PRICE carried numerous messages through heavy enemy barrages and machine gun fire, and on two occasions through gas shell barrage. Although fairly badly gassed, he would not leave the line and continued to carry out his duty until the battalion was relieved on the night of 30th. September/1st. October, 1917. | |
