Captain L. S. Bracegirdle, KCVO, DSO, CMG, MID** (1881-1970)

Captain L. S. Bracegirdle, D.S.O., military and official secretary to the Governor-General.
Captain Bracegirdle, in 1898, joined the New South Wales naval forces as a naval cadet, and, as a Midshipman, was with the Naval Brigade
at the Boxer Rebellion in China.
He later served in the South African War, and in 1914 was naval staff officer with the Naval Brigade in New Guinea.
In 1915-17 he commanded the first Australian Naval Bridging Train, and was at the first landing at Suvla Bay, Gallipoli. He was subsequently awarded the Distinguished Service Order (DSO). He was appointed Captain in 1924.
