Biography

Older brother of 7116 Pte. Robert Daniel Mitchell (/explore/people/59620) who died the day before, also in Belgium.

"Flags were flying at half-mast in Hopetoun again yesterday. Truly this district is paying a heavy toll in comparison with the number of volunteers who left. This time distressing news was that two brothers, Privates Roy and Robert Mitchell, had paid the supreme sacrifice. Their parents are Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Mitchell, of Hopetoun West, and they were born and reared in the district. The greatest sympathy is felt for the bereaved ones in the loss of two such fine lads." - from the Hopetoun Courier and Mallee Pioneer 16 Nov 1917 (nla.gov.au)
